Scuttlebutt Photos of the Week April 28-May 2, 2008 A random assortment of photos submitted to Scuttlebutt this week. Click here to submit your photos for consideration.   A 150 volunteers and the 104 Star teams from 31 nations participated in the 2008 Star Worlds, held recently in Miami, FL. These two photos capture the volunteers celebrating at the Post-Regatta Party and Poland’s Mateusz Kusznierewicz and Dominik Zycki celebrating their victory live on the PR Newswire screen in New York City’s Times Square.  On April 4, 2007, the team onboard l’Hydroptère beat two world speed records ratified by the World Sailing Speed Record Council (WSSRC): An average of 44.81 knots over 500 meters, speed record in category D; An average of 41.69 knots over one nautical mile (Outright Nautical Mile) in all categories . Both those records were set in an open ocean setting, and now with the team’s goal being to break the all-time sailing speed record and mythical barrier of 50 knots , the hydrofoil trimaran has been undergoing modifications that will increase speed and better adapt to an ideal, smooth water course. More than two months after its capsize off New Zealand, the maxi trimaran Groupama 3 is back in the yard in which it was created, after being transported by cargo ship across the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans as far as Lorient. The final international Finn class championship prior to the Olympic regatta later this summer is due to take place at Scarlino in Italy next week, from May 2-10. Despite most countries having already finalised their trials for China, there are 93 pre-entries from 30 countries. As is traditional the event also features the Junior European Championship and this year the growth of the junior fleet continues with 19 sailors from 11 countries taking part, including many new faces. The line up also includes a growing number of new sailors finding their footing in the Finn class with an encouraging four entries apiece from Serbia and Ukraine and five from Russia.  Melges Performance Sailboats pulled the first Melges 20 hull from the mold this week, where their latest production model by Reichel Pugh Yacht Design is being built at McConaghy Boats in China. Click here for more photos.  Dockwise Yacht Transport (DYT) and the STP-65 Rosebud Racing have joined forces to become Rosebud Racing/Team DYT. Owned by Roger Sturgeon of Ft, Lauderdale, Fla., the 2007 Sydney-Hobart Race winner will be participating in the Newport to Bermuda race before getting transported in August by DYT from Newport, R.I. to Sardinia, Italy for events in the Mediterranean.
