Scuttlebutt Photos: Then and Now
Kialoa III and Pyewacket
From Brad Avery of The School of Sailing and Seamanship at Orange Coast College, Newport Beach CA:
Below is a photo of Kialoa III and Pyewacket rafted together at our dock. Pyewacket just arrived this morning, sporting her new 13.5' draft keel, which should keep her off the harbor bottom compared to her original 18' draft.
It was fun to raft Pyewacket (86-foot) alongside Kialoa III (79-foot). The two boats on deck seem similar in terms of size, but when you step back and compare sail plans, Pyewacket is huge. And of course, Kialoa is much nicer below!
They were launched exactly 30 years apart (1974-2004) and were the state of the art, baddest maxis when they hit the water. A lot of development has occured in 30 years.... What will maxis look like in 2034?!!
