Cotton Blossom II
(October 15, 2004) The vintage wooden sloop Cotton Blossom II, formerly the Boat of the Year of both the New York Yacht Club (1939) and San Diego Yacht Club (1963), has just completed a 17-month restoration to revitalize the 80-year-old classic.
Overseeing the project was none other than renowned America’s Cup skipper Dennis Conner, whose plans for the yacht now include some local racing before possibly taking her to the Mediterranean to sail against other magnificent wooden boats in a series for vintage racers.
Designed in 1924 by Johan Anker, the leading “Q” Boat designer of the time, and built at the Jensen Shipyard near Oslo, Norway, Conner was able to obtain the original plans from the maritime museum in Oslo for the project. - Photos below by Craig Leweck
