Scuttlebutt Video of the Week
January 6, 2012

Iceboating requires ice...good ice. And when the ice goes bad, bad things can happen. This week's video comes from Geoff Evans, whose iceboat outing on New Year's Eve Day 2011 on Lake Minnetonka went seriously bad for some fellow sailors who found a hole in the ice. Here is his report:

"Skipper and crew of the boat were both injured but walking, and sailed home after the crash. Injuries included sprained ankles for skipper and crew, split lip and badly bloodied nose for the poor crew. The hole was a previously unknown bad spot, from which we observed bubbles coming up from the bottom of the lake right where the hole was. Surprisingly, the boat was apparently undamaged. Testament to the strength of Nite iceboats Check the ice carefully before you sail, and let others know where you find bad spots. Sail safe!"

The crash is at 2:13 minutes.
