Details released for 2019 World Sailing Annual Conference

Published on June 20th, 2019

The schedule for World Sailing’s 2019 Annual Conference, which will be held in Bermuda from October 26 to November 3, has been published. The Fairmont Southampton Hotel, with the support of Bermuda Tourism Authority (BTA), will host World Sailing delegates throughout the duration of the Annual Conference.

No fewer than ten Committees, ten Sub-Committees, four Commissions and two Working Parties will meet throughout the week. These groups will put forward their expert recommendations to World Sailing’s Council, the main decision making body of World Sailing, before the Annual General Meeting brings the conference to a close.

Registration for the 2019 Annual Conference is also open and available for Committee members, Class Associations, Member National Authorities, Media, Manufacturers and Observers here.

Bermuda’s hosting of the 2019 Annual Conference looks to build on the legacy of the island hosting the 35th America’s Cup in 2017. The Conference is expected to make a substantial economic impact on Bermuda and drive awareness of the island to the sports major influencers. World Sailing will also work with local companies and the sailing community to maximise the opportunities available.

Outside of the main schedule of meetings, the second edition of the eSailing World Championship will be held on Tuesday 29 October. France’s L1 won the inaugural edition in 2018 and the world’s top eight eSailors will once again fight for the title. To find out more about the eSailing World Championship, click here.

The World Sailing Awards night, a ceremony that recognises excellence across the sport, will be held on the evening of 29 October. Trophies to be awarded include the male and female Rolex World Sailors of the Year, the Hempel Team of the Year Award, the 11th Hour Racing Sustainability Award, the Boat of the Year Award, eSailing World Championship Trophy, Beppe Croce Trophy and President’s Development Award.

Nominations for all, excluding the Beppe Croce Trophy and President’s Development Award, open on Monday 24 June via the World Sailing website.

World Sailing will once again host two open forums. The first will be on Monday 28 October from 14:30 to 17:00 followed by the second on Tuesday 29 from 09:00 to 11:00. Further information on the forums and presenters will be released shortly.
