Thailand wins Opti Team Racing Worlds

The 2018 Optimist World Team Racing Championship was held for 48 4-boat national teams on September 1-2 in Limissol, Cyprus.

Sixteen teams survived the qualifying round and advanced to the final stage where Thailand remained perfect to face off against Italy in the final, with Thailand taking the title in light winds while Spain finished third. Defending champions Team USA made it to the final stage but a loss against Thailand moved them to the loser’s bracket where a loss to Spain eliminated them.

The attention turns back to the Optimist World Championship as the 258 sailors from 58 Nations were divided into Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Emerald fleets in the Qualification Series on August 29 to 31.

This sets the stage for the final series on September 3-5 to determine the World titles.
