Paris 2024: Unfulfilled promises

Published on April 15th, 2024

As much a benefit it is for athletes to have the Olympics in their home country, it is nearly guaranteed that the citizens of the host city will be mush less pleased. For Paris 2024, some of the trepidation is from the 15 million visitors expected, but local exhaustion also is due to the broken pledges by organizers and government authorities.

In the seven years since Paris won the right to host the 2024 Olympic Games, several key promises made by the organizing committee have remained unfulfilled. Many people feel that the ticket prices are too high, while parents complain that having to buy tickets for babies is at odds with the “People’s Games.” Organizers say the cost of tickets is comparable to London 2012.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony on the Seine was initially planned for 600,000 spectators, including 100,000 ticket holders. Due to security reasons, attendance has been capped at 222,000, maintaining 100,000 paid ticket slots. – Full report
