Canada and USA on podium in France

The 56th edition of the Semaine Olympique Française was good for Canada and USA with racing on April 21-26 in Hyères, France. This was the second stage of the 2025 Sailing Grand Slam which has organized five events to promote Olympic sailing toward Los Angeles 2028.

• Canada: Antonia and Georgia Lewin-LaFrance from Chester, N.S., won the bronze medal in 49erFX. A third Canadian also stood out in France as Clara Gravely from Toronto, ON, took 8th place in ILCA 6, her best-ever performance at an international event. – Full report

• USA: America One Racing’s new Project Podium Team is making some waves on the international scene. A1R brought 7 athletes to Hyeres, and 5 of the 7 were battling for the podium. The 49er team of Nevin Snow and Ian MacDiarmid won gold, Paris Henken and Helena Scutt were second in the 49erFX, Charlotte Rose finished fourth in the ILCA 6, while Noah Runciman’s 9th place finish was his highest ever result in a major Formula Kite Championship. – Full report


The Sailing Grand Slam consists of the four most iconic Olympic sailing events in Europe as well as a new regatta to be held in the host city of Los Angeles 2028:

• Semaine Olympique Française (Hyères, France): April 19-26
• Kieler Woche (Kiel, Germany): June 21-29
• Long Beach Olympic Classes Regatta (Long Beach, USA): July 12-20
• Dutch Water Week (Almere, The Netherlands): September 17-21
