Olympic brand remains strong

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has worried about the relevancy of their Olympic Games. People are attracted to more “extreme” competitions, so the IOC included Skateboarding, sport climbing, surfing, and breaking at the Paris 2024 Games, while Sailing dramatically revised its Program to increase interest.
But if relevancy is connected to income (no ‘but’ needed… it is), the IOC has revealed that their commercial revenues are up by 60 percent since 2012. Considering that these gains coincided with a very challenging economic situation in the world, the IOC can table its panic.
With the IOC’s commercial revenues for the 2021-2024 Olympiad at USD 7.7 billion, this is a clear demonstration that the Olympic brand remains strong and interest in commercial partnerships with the IOC is robust.
Also, since “a rising tide lifts all boats,” the IOC continues to distribute 90 percent of its revenue to sport worldwide, spread over the Olympiad, for the benefit of the Olympic Movement, including the athletes, International Federations, National Olympic Committees, Organising Committees, and Recognised Organisations, for the development of sport worldwide.
This means that over the last four years, the IOC has distributed the equivalent of USD 4.7 million every day to help athletes and sports organizations at all levels around the world. – Full report
