Yacht builder sues New York Times
Published on November 7th, 2024
The Italian Sea Group (TISG), a luxury yacht builder with Perini Navi in its portfolio, has been in the spotlight since the 184-foot Bayesian capsized at anchor, killing seven of 22 people on board. When a report by The New York Times found fault in the yacht’s design, it prompted the builder to initiate legal proceedings against the publication.
The article discussed the sinking of the superyacht Bayesian, which made international headlines when it sank in a freak maritime accident during a storm off the Sicilian coast in August. Bayesian was built by Perini Navi, an Italian brand that TISG acquired in January 2021 from a bankruptcy auction along with Perini Navi’s brand, archives, and real estate.
