Turning the hull of a really big boat
Published on July 25th, 2024
Dutch shipbuilding company Royal Huisman marked its 140th anniversary with the milestone hull turning of what will be, at 280 feet, the world’s largest yacht with a single mast.
The main part of the aluminum hull, at 200 feet, was wheeled out of the construction hall of the shipyard, and in a seamless maneuver, four cranes lifted and turned the hull mid-air and lowered into a cradle to continue the build.
With this step completed, the team will now proceed with developing onboard systems, outfitting, and more. The bow section, which is currently under construction, will be attached to the main part in a next stage.
Known as Project 410, the highly secretive yacht is a co-creation between the owner and his team, Frers Design for the overall concept, exterior design, naval architecture, and Wetzels Brown for the interior design. The design is engineered by Royal Huisman’s in-house team, including expert co-makers.
