America’s Cup: Boasting about Barcelona
Published on March 15th, 2023
It was a year ago when America’s Cup defender Team New Zealand broke the hearts of their passionate home fans, revealing the 37th edition would be held in Barcelona, Spain. Paul Strzelecki with IBI News talks with team leader Grant Dalton for an update on that decision:
How is the sponsorship situation for the teams and the event in general?
The fact that the America’s Cup is now back in Europe, in one of the world’s most iconic cities (Barcelona) is huge for the event and its commercial potential.
The interest from existing and potential sponsors is really positive for Emirates Team New Zealand, and I am sure for the other teams also. When you consider the population and annual visitors to Barcelona, plus the potential market all within hours of the city, it is huge.
You also have to consider the time zone for broadcasts, which is far more valuable to the European market. Last time the live broadcast was in the middle of the night. – Full report
