2022 505 North American Championship
Published on February 20th, 2022
Clearwater, FL (February 20, 2022) – Mike Martin and Adam Lowry took the 2022 505 North Americans by a mere point over Stu McNay and Caleb Paine, with an unexpected bounty of sunshine and breeze today propelling the fleet through three races. Mike Holt/ Rob Woelfel were 3rd, Howie Hamlin/ Jeff Nelson were 4th, and Craig Thompson/ JB Turney rounded out the top 5.
By his own in exact count, this is Martin’s 12th North Americans win, with several in both helm and crew positions. Their heavy air boat handling and speed proved the difference, enabling them to get around McNay/ Paine on several occasions. McNay and Paine went lights out today with a 1-2-1 to close to within a point, but to no avail.
The Clearwater Community Sailing Club deserves massive credit for a perfectly run event, with an assist from Mother Nature.
Twelve races were held on February 17-20.
