Pensacola Yacht Club, just to the west of where America’s Cup challenger American Magic was based during the winter, got hit hard on September 16 when Sally landed on the Florida panhandle.
Sally took a northerly path toward eastern Alabama which put Pensacola on the east side of the storm, the most powerful part, and which had intensified to a Category 2 hurricane. Naval Air Station at the South end of Pensacola Bay reported 110 mph wind and 25 inches of rain.
