Tragedy in Australia on Moreton Bay

Tragedy struck the Australian sailing community in Manly, Queensland. This notice comes from the national sailing federation:
Sydney, Australia (March 9, 2020) – Australian Sailing, on behalf of members of the sailing community, expresses our sincere condolences to the family of a sailor lost after an incident in yesterday’s Kingfisher Interclub Night Series on Moreton Bay.
Two men were knocked overboard from a yacht at around 5pm, with one reported to be unconscious. The man was located a short time later and brought to shore and despite the best efforts of paramedics was later declared deceased.
Australian Sailing President Daniel Belcher was saddened to hear of the incident, saying, “On behalf of the entire sailing community, we send our deepest of sympathies to the family of the sailor we lost yesterday afternoon.
“It would have been a distressing situation for all involved in the race at Wynnum Manly Sailing Club. I am sure the entire community will rally together to support them at this time. We also express our gratitude for the work of emergency services personnel who were quickly on the scene and rendered assistance”, Daniel added.
The matter is currently under investigation by local authorities, Australian Sailing President Daniel Belcher is available for any further comments.
