Shrink Wrap Your Own Boat

Published on October 8th, 2013

What’s the single largest, most avoidable expense many boat owners face year after year? For many it’s that annual bill from the boatyard for shrinkwrapping your boat for the winter. After paying that bill for a couple years, I got together with a couple other boat owners to do our boats ourselves.

The shrink wrap supplies are relatively inexpensive, and we split the cost of the heat gun. It’s not that difficult a skill to learn, and it’s actually kind of fun to come back to the boatyard with the guys one last time after finishing with winterizing the boat. My annual covering cost is now less than 10% of what it used to be, and the used shrink film is recycled. Better for me, the boat, and the environment!

So check out how to shrink wrap your own boat and add one more fun experience at the end of the boating season.
