Better luck than Gilligan

Published on April 11th, 2024

It took 15 years for Gilligan and his mates to get rescued after the SS Minnow ran aground on an uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean, but for three men in their 40s, they are thankful for the progress in the past 40+ years.

They only needed nine days before their rescue by the US Coast Guard off an island in Micronesia after they sent out a plea for “HELP” using palm tree leaves.

The trio departed on Easter Sunday for Pikelot Atoll, about 115 miles away, in a traditional 20-foot skiff with an outboard motor. But when their skiff sustained damage that rendered it non-functional, they survived on coconuts until family initiated the successful search. – Full report
